The Noeline Honter Academy (NHA), a leading English Language Training Institution in Sri Lanka, was inaugurated in June 2014, following a smooth transition from its initial establishment, Life English Academy, which discontinued services in May 2014 and handed over operations to its then Director/ Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Honter. Within a short period the academy’s reputation for high quality English training has placed it among the premier training establishments in the island.

The company operates under the guidance of multi award winning English television presenter, British qualified teacher, and speech examiner, Noeline Honter, who is Chairperson of the establishment.

The NHA faculty comprises specially trained lecturers, and teachers who are highly qualified and experienced in their particular areas of expertise.

Since its inauguration, the academy has successfully provided English language training to a large number of students to date, including corporate training for a number of leading business establishments. It continues to provide high calibre training in various English Disciplines.

Our training programmes are designed to guide the students through the process of learning and mastering the oral and written language … from improving English communication skills to expanding vocabulary, and enhancing confidence in public speaking. We place special emphasis on English pronunciation, with particular attention to pronunciation concerns of Sri Lankan speakers of English.

The NHA training programmes include:

  • Spoken English (Oral Communication) – For adults and children
  • General English (Writing, Speaking, Reading, Listening) – For adults and  children
  • English for the Corporate World – Comprehensive training programmes for business executives and professionals focusing on oral and written, job –specific communication, with separate programmes on Presentation Skills, if required by the client. 
  • IELTS training – Academic and General Training modules (For overseas employment, overseas education and migration)
  • Television News Presentation – A comprehensive master class conducted by Ms Noeline Honter, one of Sri Lanka’s most awarded TV presenters; a former training facilitator for The Sri Lanka Television Training Institute, The Sri Lanka College of Journalism, Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation, Swarnavahini, and Derana 
  • English for Specific Purposes – Covering an extensive gamut of industry-specific training for corporate clients
  • English on Demand – Customised programmes for individuals and small groups based on their specific requirements. This programme includes Presentation and Public Speaking Skills.
  • Speech and Drama – For children and young adults (Training for NHA and British examinations e.g. Trinity College of London, London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, etc.)
  • English for the School Syllabus – Specialised training for O/L and A/L General English and Literature, based on the national and international syllabi.
  • English for Job Seekers – For A/Level qualified students, school leavers, and young adults seeking employment. 

The academy caters to the English training needs of children from the age of four, to adults. Our oldest trainees have even been in their early 70s! The adult student body consists of office workers, housewives, school leavers, university students, business executives and professionals.

IELTS Training:

The Noeline Honter Academy  conducts comprehensive training programmes in Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing skills for  IELTS, with an additional, specialised programme in English pronunciation for IELTS. It has a 100 % success rate with the training and preparation of students for the International English Language Testing System. 

Training Methodology:

Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, we now conduct our training operations online. The majority of these training programmes are conducted online, on an individual basis. Group training is also conducted online for corporate clients, dependent on client requirements. 

A major part of training is carried out with computerised, interactive programmes, customised and designed by Ms Honter.
